February 2011 Sassy Mom of the Month: Reese Whitherspoon

Recently engaged to Hollywood agent Jim Toth, the “Water for Elephants” star, Reese Whitherspoon, has two kids with ex-husband, Ryan Philippe.  On showbizspy.com, Reese says, “My children are the best part of my day”.  I couldn’t agree more, Reese.  She went on to say, “I used to be very competitive and aggressive but when I had my first child at 22, it put my whole life in perspective and helped me get out of my very narrow-minded focus on my career. Having kids stops the endless cycle of self-obsession”.  I can’t start my day without saying good-bye to Sophia.  When the work day is over, I run out the door at 5 pm sharp just to sneak in some time with my daughter before bedtime.  Living like this has definitely taken a toll on my career, but the extra hours behind the desk at work pails in comparison to time spent with Sophia.

January 2011 Sassy Mom of the Month: Kelly Ripa

When I came up with this category, I knew immediately I wanted Kelly Ripa to be the first Sassy Mom of the Month.  Honestly, she saved me during my maternity leave.  My daughter cried constantly 24 hours a day and 7 days a week except at 9 am for an hour (Mondays could not come fast enough) when Kelly Ripa appeared on the television screen (Sorry Regis!).  If my daughter was asleep, her internal clock woke her up exactly at 9 am, her eyes would open and she turned to me  as if to say, “Momma, Kelly is on. Can you please turn on the t.v.?”  I was so sleep deprived that I don’t even think I can recall a single show, but I was grateful to have one hour of quiet 5 days a week. 

Nevertheless, Kelly is deserving of the title not only because she is my baby whisperer, but also because I admire women like Kelly who can make juggling a career and motherhood look effortless.  She’s forty and she looks fabulous.  She has a gorgeous husband, Mark Consuelos, and they have three beautiful children together.   

Besides doesn’t she look a fun mom.  I’d drop off my daughter to play with her kids any day. Kelly, if you are free to babysit call me.
